Sami is the only trusted, tested, and endorsed candidate for the Corvallis School Board position 1. As a leader of color and champion for public education, he is under attack.
Sami is working with school board members of Corvallis and across the nation to OPPOSE Harmful budget reconciliation proposals and the use of budget reconciliation to advance harmful policies that would:
- Divert federal tax revenue to subsidize private school choice through a new tax credit program that lacks accountability and oversight;
- Cut Medicaid funding for school-based services, putting supports for students with disabilities and low-income families at risk; and
- Slash federal nutrition programs that help ensure students have access to the healthy food they need to learn and thrive.
These policies impact us in Corvallis directly by taking away funds from the school district, they would impact our school based health center and the health services the school district provides. Corvallis children will be impacted by the reduction to the school nutrition programs that many families depend on.
Sami is creating awareness locally, statewide, and nationally about Trump’s policies targeting public education
In the past 8 years, Sami led, advanced, or supported multiple initiatives affirming the district’s commitment to inclusive and just education:
- Initiated systemic naming reviews for equity and renaming of Schools to honor Bessie Coleman, Kathryn Jones Harrison, and Letitia Carson, replacing racially insensitive names. Corvallis for the first time has schools named after women and people of Color.
- Monthly Heritage Acknowledgements: Including Black History, Hispanic Heritage, LGBTQI2S+ History, Indigenous Peoples’, Arab American, AAPI, Women’s History, Caribbean American, Developmental Disability Awareness, Jewish American History, and Pride Months. These acknowledgements include continued call for action and support of educational programs that support students learning and cultural understanding.
- Protect students from discrimination and bullying by advancing local and statewide safeguards against bias especially bias based on disability, race, or gender identity.
- Banning guns from Corvallis School properties.
- Stand up for undocumented students and ensure school staff and families are supported and that children and their families feel safe going to and coming from school.
Sami is a fierce advocate for disability rights, racial justice, dual immersion programs, and ensuring that every student receives the best education opportunity in their neighborhood public school.
Your vote will ensure that Sami can keep fighting for Corvallis children on the Corvallis School Board and on Oregon and the National associations representing and supporting school boards.
Your vote re-electing Sami ensures his ability to keep fighting for us on Corvallis School Board, and as leader elected from Corvallis at the Oregon School Boards Association and the National School Board Association.
